THE COST OF A HEALTHY DIET

The economic factor plays a major role in eating habits. Unfortunately, fast food and other unhealthy food options are ubiquitous. They pop up on almost every corner of cities around the world advertising cheap deals or appear in pre-packaged meals on supermarket shelves claiming to be the easy solution to the food prep dilemma. These options are not only appealing to those on a low income or budget, but to the majority of the population who are constantly on the run, trying to keep up with the fast pace of modern lifestyles. However, it is not only the huge fast food industry, nor the companies and businesses, which lavishly offer cheap meals and unhealthy products, that contribute to the spread of obesity, as, ironically, the health sector has also played an important role in how society sees healthy eating. In recent years, the health and wellness industry promotes expensive superfoods and exclusive premium fitness classes. Healthy eating is viewed as a luxury, inaccessible, and often considered too expensive to adopt. This idea is far from reality. Healthy nutrition is a fundamental human right that does not require the purchase of any overpriced juice or special breakfast to achieve. There is a wide variety of economical and at the same time healthy meal options as long as you take the time to make the right choices.
